How to get Whiter teeth

The first part of your body that is noticed when you meet people is your face and when you smile, your teeth is the next thing that is noticed. Our teeth naturally yellow as we age, whitening them can make you look younger.
A trip to the dentist can set you back a couple hundred's of pounds/dollars so below are some remedies to help you acheive a brighter smile.

1. Brush your teeth at least 2times a day
Using a firm brush and a good whitening toothpaste, brush your teeth for at least 2-5minutes a day to make your teeth whiter. Concentrate on getting the slime off your tongue as the slime on the tongue is a breeding ground for bacteria which causes mouth-odour.

2. Make your own teeth whitener at home
Mix into a  paste- a tablespoon of baking soda, juice from a lemon fruit and salt  alternatively a mixture of baking soda and no more than 3% hydrogen peroxide. Place the mixture on a soft toothbrush and brush as normal.
Your teeth will get whiter and whiter each time the mixture above is used but be careful as it is known to deplete the enamel.

To keep your teeth whiter for longer do the following:

  • Dont drink anything that can stain your teeth like dark sodas, coffee, red wines, cranberry juices. Anything that can stain a white coloured material can stain your teeth too.
  • Avoid any acidic foods and flavoured drinks that can erode the enamel or brush your teeth at least 30 minutes after eating acidic foods.
  • Eat foods high in protein and add more calcium to your diet as they neutralise the acids that make your teeth yellow.
  • Drink more water and eat more raw vegetables
  • Floss at least once a day and chew sugar free gum to regularly produce saliva as a dry mouth is a smelly mouth.
  • Dont smoke or chew tobacco
  • See a doctor if you are pregnant or under 16 years of age before taking oral antibotics such as tetracycline as your teeth can be badly stained or yellowed.
  • Visit the dentist for regular check-ups

7 Sleeping Positions and their Effects on your Health

Getting enough sleep is the most important thing – but did you know that how you sleep can also impact your health? Let’s take a look at eight common sleeping positions and what they do to your body.

1. On Your Back, Arms at Sides
Sleeping on your back with your arms at your side is generally considered to be the best sleeping position for spine health and its good for your neck as long as you dont use too many pillows. Sleep on your back and you will tend to Snore more than any other sleeping position.

2. On Your Back, Arms up
This position is also good for your back, sleeping on your back also helps prevent facial wrinkles and skin breakouts. This position can also result in snoring problems, acid reflux and shoulder pain as having your arms up can put pressure on your shoulders.

3. Face Down
The Positive for sleeping face down is that it can improve digestion but it means you will have to tilt your face in order to breathe thereby putting a lot of strain on the neck. Sleeping face down can also cause back pain.

4. Fetal Position
Sleeping in a curled up position with your knees drawn up to your chest might be a comfortable position but can restrict deep breathing . This position is ideal for Snorers and Pregnant women.

5. On Your Sides
This Position can help reduce back and neck pain but the downside can be skin aging , facial wrinkles and sagging breasts.

6. Sleeping on the Right Side or Left Side
Doctors advices Pregnant women to sleep on the left side as this can improve circulation to the fetus. While sleeping on the right side can put on strain on the liver, lungs and stomanch  and worsen heartburn.

7. Pillow Supplemented
Whichever sleeping position you choose or prefer, you will likely get a better night's rest with less pain by sleeping with a pillow. Back sleepers can put a small pillow under the arch of their spine, Side sleepers can place a pillow between their knees and Stomach sleepers can place a pillow under their hips to support the joints and allow for pain -free relaxation.

The Difference between BB, CC and the new DD creams

These beauty creams are taking the comestic industry by storm and have become really popular in the last 2 years.

BB creams:
BB stands for Blemish Balm, it is a light weight moisturiser with a hint of colour. Can be used in place of a foundation to smoothen out your complexion. It comes with a sunscreen and vitamins which allows the skin to breathe and look flawless

CC creams:
CC stands for Colour Correction, it is just the new and improved versions of BB creams. Also known to provide natural looking skin coverage. The benefits of CC cream include high SPF rating to ensure protection from damaging UVA and UVB rays. It also treats and covers uneven skin tones and blends better than BB creams that are too light on certain skin tones. It has a lighter texture too for smoother application with a less oily finish but is nourishing to the skin. The end effect is said to be more natural and flawless.

If you have oily or acne-prone skin and hyperpigmentation problems and want an all-in-one moisturizer/sunscreen/primer/foundation, then I would choose a CC cream over a BB cream. Otherwise, for those with dry or normal skin, stick with a BB cream.

DD creams:
DD stands for "dynamic do-alls" and it is only just coming out now.  DD cream delivers serious results and is geared towards aging skin. It contains more concentrated ingredients than a BB cream, and is formulated to tackle signs of aging. Contains SPF to protect delicate areas as it moisturizes, diminishes fine lines, and balances uneven tone. DD cream is ideal for you if you find that BB or CC creams don't provide enough coverage over stubborn age or sun spots.

In a nutshell, BB creams - dry or normal skin. CC - Oily skin and combination skin. DD- Aging skin.

There are many brands in stores now and the vast selection can sometimes be overwhelming. As with regular moisturizers you just need to try out a few (feel free to ask for samples at the counters!) and choose the right one for you.
