The first part of your body that is noticed when you meet people is your face and when you smile, your teeth is the next thing that is noticed. Our teeth naturally yellow as we age, whitening them can make you look younger.
A trip to the dentist can set you back a couple hundred's of pounds/dollars so below are some remedies to help you acheive a brighter smile.
1. Brush your teeth at least 2times a day
Using a firm brush and a good whitening toothpaste, brush your teeth for at least 2-5minutes a day to make your teeth whiter. Concentrate on getting the slime off your tongue as the slime on the tongue is a breeding ground for bacteria which causes mouth-odour.
2. Make your own teeth whitener at home
Mix into a paste- a tablespoon of baking soda, juice from a lemon fruit and salt alternatively a mixture of baking soda and no more than 3% hydrogen peroxide. Place the mixture on a soft toothbrush and brush as normal.
Your teeth will get whiter and whiter each time the mixture above is used but be careful as it is known to deplete the enamel.
To keep your teeth whiter for longer do the following:
- Dont drink anything that can stain your teeth like dark sodas, coffee, red wines, cranberry juices. Anything that can stain a white coloured material can stain your teeth too.
- Avoid any acidic foods and flavoured drinks that can erode the enamel or brush your teeth at least 30 minutes after eating acidic foods.
- Eat foods high in protein and add more calcium to your diet as they neutralise the acids that make your teeth yellow.
- Drink more water and eat more raw vegetables
- Floss at least once a day and chew sugar free gum to regularly produce saliva as a dry mouth is a smelly mouth.
- Dont smoke or chew tobacco
- See a doctor if you are pregnant or under 16 years of age before taking oral antibotics such as tetracycline as your teeth can be badly stained or yellowed.
- Visit the dentist for regular check-ups
